HeartRadio
On June 13, 2011, Thumbplay discontinued their service. Since Thumbplay was bought by Clear Channel back in March, they are shifting all content that was ever received by Thumbplay to the streaming service, iHeartRadio, which offers access to over 750+ radio stations nationwide as well as a DMCA-compliant personalized radio feature. This means all content that was ever received by Thumbplay from TuneCore artists will be available on iHeartRadio as of June 13, 2011. After June 13, 2011, TuneCore artists can continue to distribute their music to iHeartRadio and have their music available for streaming there.
Note: In the end of 2011, iHeartRadio plans to launch their on-demand store, where sales reporting will then be reported to TuneCore. Once their on-demand store launches, we will have more information here.
How will I get paid?
TuneCore artists who have distributed their content to Thumbplay and had sales occur will receive sales reports and money in their TuneCore account up to the reporting date of June 13, 2011. After June 13, 2011, all money made from iHeartRadio plays of your music will be reported to SoundExchange (
www.soundexchange.com). So money earned by your music from streams at iHeartRadio will NOT flow through TuneCore: it will be waiting for you at Sound Exchange, and you need to be signed up with Sound Exchange to retrieve it. Registration with Sound Exchange is free!
VerveLife
VerveLife is a leading force in robust, tech-driven solutions that help brands and digital retailers harness the power of music. VerveLife provides digital content for the following companies: DMX, IMVU, Roqbot, the Live Nation and Ticketmaster Superstores, and official artist stores for Musictoday, Cinder Block, and Bandwear. When you choose to have your music delivered to VerveLife, you agree to make it available to all retailers as described below. Please note: for some of VerveLife’s clients, it is not guaranteed that your content will be added to their store or playlists, but it will make your content available for the opportunities detailed below.
IMVU
IMVU (imvu.com) is a non-traditional music retailer, but a social avatar networking site. Through VerveLife distribution, your music will be available as both a stream and download in the IMVU Music Store. People go to IMVU, create an avatar (a graphical representation of yourself) that can wander, interact, socialize and buy virtual items and music.
How Streaming Music Works in IMVU:
Streaming tracks are purchased by users at a flat rate. An avatar can create a playlist of songs and enable other avatars to listen to it within a chat room; just like a DJ at a radio station puts together a playlist of songs for listeners to hear. When a “radio station” plays songs on the Internet, U.S. law requires you get paid. The money that is owed to you is paid to a collection agency called SoundExchange. Sound Exchange’s job is to collect the money owed to you from streams in the U.S. and then give it to you, once you register with them (registration with Sound Exchange is free). International streaming sales are handled through another company called PPL. So, money earned from streaming your music at IMVU will NOT flow through TuneCore: it will be waiting for you at Sound Exchange, and you need to be signed up with Sound Exchange to retrieve it.
How Digital Downloads Work in IMVU:
In addition to streaming music, MP3 downloads are available to IMVU users for purchase in the IMVU Music Store. The wholesale cost paid to you is 70% of the retail price (i.e. if your song sells for $0.99, you get paid $0.70 for that song sale).
NOTE: IMVU Music Store does not accept any song that is 10 minutes or longer. If you have an album with a song that is 10 minutes or longer, that song will not be available in the IMVU Music Store.
DMX
Through multi-sensory branding, DMX (dmx.com) has been creating unforgettable brand experiences for commercial environments since 1971. The first music service to license and program original artist music, DMX has rigorously researched and tested the effects of music, video, messaging and scent on human behavior. See their list of clients here:
http://www.dmx.com/about/our-clientsThrough distribution to VerveLife, your music will be accessible to DMX’s team of music designers who hand pick songs for inclusion in playlists they create for clients. If your music is selected and used for an in-store or online client playlists, you will be paid per stream by Sound Exchange (see IMVU section above for more info on how that works). Many of the widgets created for DMX’s clients enable the customer to purchase single track or entire playlist downloads as well.
DMX also manages the music for DirecTV’s music channels. The channels are genre specific and can be accessed by any DirecTV customer. When songs are played, there is typically a listing of the artist, song title, and a reference to SonicTap.com to purchase the song the customer is hearing. SonicTap.com is a digital download store owned by DMX, selling DRM-free MP3s direct to the consumer. SonicTap allows users to purchase songs they’ve heard on DirecTV, as well as playlists created by DMX music designers based on genre, mood, basically any preference. Choosing to deliver your music to VerveLife will automatically make your content available to DMX, who can add your music to the SonicTap.com store. The wholesale cost paid to you will be 70% of the retail price (for example: if a track of yours is sold for $0.99, you will be paid $0.70 for that sale).
Maxback
VerveLife brings digital music downloads to its new partnership with MaxBack.com, a rewards-through-recycling used electronics program. MaxBack.com allows consumers to recycle used electronic items (cell phones, mp3s, digital cameras, GPS systems) in exchange for points which enable them to receive rewards like music downloads, electronic items, or to contribute their items’ value to schools or non-profits.
Roqbot
Roqbot provides an innovative and engaging way for people to hear their favorite music at bars and restaurants. Instead of inserting money into a jukebox, customers can check into a participating venue with the Roqbot application and become a “DJ” for the venue, selecting song choices from the app entering it into a DMCA-compliant playlist that gets played through the venue‘s speakers. Other DJs in the venue can also add songs to the playlist, ultimately providing a crowdsourced playlist between users under one roof. People can also vote song picks up or down, which affects DJ ratings as well as positions in line.
If you deliver your music to VerveLife, it will provide Roqbot access to it for compulsory streaming usage only. That means money earned by your music from streaming through Roqbot will NOT flow through TuneCore: it will be waiting for you at Sound Exchange, and you need to be signed up with SoundExchange in order to retrieve payment.
Musictoday, Live Nation and Ticketmaster Stores
Live Nation Entertainment is the world‘s leading live entertainment company consisting of concert promotion, marketing solutions, ticketing and e-commerce. They have two merchandise stores, the Live Nation Superstore and the new Ticketmaster Store. Both stores carry and sell physical goods and digital content from artists, comedians, and celebrities.
VerveLife is the digital content provider for Musictoday, who manages the Live Nation and Ticketmaster Superstores. Therefore when you deliver your content to VerveLife, you are making your music available for the Live Nation or Ticketmaster stores to sell. Not every piece of content delivered to VerveLife will get added to these two stores, but they will be available for consideration. The wholesale cost paid to you will be 70% of the retail price (for example: if a track of yours is sold for $0.99, you will be paid $0.70 for that sale). There are also seasonal, promotional opportunities for both the Live Nation and Ticketmaster stores. Your content may be considered for these promotions if applicable.
Official Artist Stores (Musictoday, Cinder Block, Bandwear)
Musictoday, Cinder Block, and Bandwear are three separate companies, not affiliated with each other, that operate official merchandise stores for artists, record labels, branded tours, comedians and celebrities. VerveLife is the digital content provider for these three merchandise companies. By delivering your content to VerveLife, your content will be accessible to these retailers and considered by them only if they have a direct working relationship with you. Content does not get sold on any of these stores without permission from the artist, artist manager, and/or record label. If your content is sold in any store managed by Musictoday, Cinder Block, or Bandwear, the wholesale cost paid to you will be 70% of the retail price (for example: if a track of yours is sold for $0.99, you will be paid $0.70 for that sale).
eMusic
eMusic is a service that lets people download music (no streaming is offered) through different membership plans. When you distribute your music through TuneCore, eMusic sells your music at a retail price (the selling price of your music) of $0.49 per song with a maximum price of $5.99 per album ( $0.49 × Number of Songs = Album Price, but maximum album price of $5.99). So, you get paid $0.40 per song sale and a maximum price of $4.40 per album sale. Note, if a song is 10 minutes or longer, then that song will be available as album only.
Note, eMusic pays out sales quarterly.
eMusic is available in: United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe
