Everything Scott Kinsey turns his hand to, musically and conceptually, turns golden. Why I don’t see due recognition and acknowledgment of his magical innovation in the realm of keyboards, conception and production has been a mystery to me for a long time. Guy’s a genius as far as I’m concerned. In my estimation this is the art is high is it can in this area of music be right now ... as represented collectively by these maestros. Thank you guys! It’s unbelievable. Captivating music of harmonic and rhythmic intelligence and intrigue.

A short John McLaughlin anecdote..I met him backstage after a concert at the Cultural Centre in Hong Kong in March 2014. The first thing he asked was "how was the sound" (it had been pretty bad, Hong Kong has a shortage of decent venues). I said that the last time I had see him was with Miles Davis at the concert at La Villette, Paris in 1991. I asked him if he realised when he was recording Bitches Brew that it was an album that would change music - he said "no, the album that changed everything was In A Silent Way". He said the first time he had played with Miles was in Anne Arbor - they played 'Round Midnight (which he said was not easy to play) and after starting slowly it kicked off into this super fast tempo. At that point Miles walked up to him and said - "Play!" - and he played his solo with Miles standing in front of him watching. "If you survive that you can survive anything" he said. In the studio Miles said "play like you've never played before", and I understood the meaning as leave everything you know outside the studio and feel totally free to play what and how you want. John also said he still had dreams about Miles...(I am on the right of the photo, my late and dear friend Flynn Adams, who played seven-string bass, is on the left.)
