Since he started playing with Gans'n'Roses,he has preferred Marshall amps. For live performance he used 100-watt Marshall Jubilee heads alone with single Marshall 4x12 cabinets loaded with Celestion speakers. In live perfomance he will play through two Marshall half stacks, one set to a clean tone, the other distorted.Slash used a variety of Marshall hesds in the sttudio.Until recently,he played through a single Marshall half stack alone with a Mesa Boogie Mark III,which is used only to generate feedback in the studio control room.Currently,he likes to use two Marshall half-stacks that are connected in series. He sometimes records clean tones with a solid-state Roland JC-120 Jass Chorus amp.
Slash does not like to use many effects other then a wah-wah pedal in the studio, preferring the tone of the guitar connected directly to the amp.On stage he used a Boss 7-graphic EQ for extra gain,a Heil talk box(a Dean Markley talk box was used on the first album),and custom voltage controlled wah-wah pedals made by Matt Bacchi of EBM audio(Ocland,CA).Sometimes he will use a small amound of delay or echo, which is added at the mixing board. On stage,he connected his guitar to a Nady 1200 wireless sistem.
