Matamp GTO et C7 schematics Modern Matamp schematics are very rare on the web. It's a shame because their design are quite unique if not revolutionnary, and they do sound pretty good. The Matamp GTO , also known as the series 2000, has varying features. Some offer a 3 position Depth control and a 4 position Drive control, while some others have a 4 position Depth control and a variable Drive. The following schematic is for an amp of the first kind, but it is easy to extrapolates as to how the second variant is built. Here are the interesting bits : _ the input grid resistance value is 200KOhm instead of the common 1MOhm. This means that the input sensitivity is lower than on most amps. The reason for this may be historical (see the 70's Matamp and Orange designs) and it is very easy to modify that should you wish a higher sensitivity,_ the Depth is identical to the F.A.C. control on Orange amps but is is implemented earlier in the signal path. This is in fact better to sculpt the sound of the amp, particularly if it is pushed into overdrive, _ the Drive is quite superfluous in my book. It could easily be replaced by a 1MOhm Volume pot (instead of the 500kOhm) and that would have allowed continuous control instead of 4 choices. It may be here because of historical and commercial reasons: Matamp may want to keep the front panel identical to the "vintage" models for this series in spite of a totally rethinked circuit,_ the effects loop is quite crude but may work well in most application. My main niggle with it is that if a simple cable or an effects processor with no output resistance is plugged into the Return jack, the return triode will go into runaway and die. This is why some later models have a resistance accross this input. too bad for an amp in this range,_ lastly, the output stage is of the "cathode bias" type with no global feedback. It is not so common with EL34s and this must contributes to the unique tone of this amp.Click here to see the Matamp GTO schematicThe Matamp C7 is one of those fashionable single ended amps that we see everywhere now. My schematic is incomplete because I drew it from pictures only. Nevertheless, it features a few interesting points:_ the tonestack design is taken straight out of a Hiwatt Custom, although the identified values are different. This kind of tonestack isn't very efficient in a Hiwatt (at least the ones I have played including mine), but it is very powerful in Sound City amps._ the valve after the return of the effects loop doesn't have a resistor on its grid: this is looking for trouble (if an unconnected cable is plugged into the return jack for example). This omission is strange since the reverb recovery stage has one..._ the power tube cathode resistor doesn't have a bypass cap: I haven't tried this in my builds but I assume that the result is reduced power output (as in "not increased") and some kind of compression effect._ the ON/OFF LED positive voltage is taken from the power tube cathode resistor: simple and smart,_ the Attack control is an improved "presece" control: it gives a kind of cut when the wiper is close to the global negative feedback resistor, and boost when the wiper is on the other side. Again, smart.I'd be happy to complete the diagram so feel free to send me high res pics of your C7 circuit, if you have one.Click here for the Matamp C7 schemExcept for a few niggles, these Matamps are very well made (better than the ones from the 90s actually). They look good, sound good, will probably last along time and are priced more competitively than many of their competitors.
У этой схемы офигенный звук!
N9, ну C7 и First Lady - мелковаттники.
