Since my last installment, I've received questions about using resistors with a capacitor, for treble bleed and/or tone circuits. These have been used by various manufacturers and are becoming more popular. The top diagram shows a resistor and cap wired in parallel as a treble bleed circuit. This works best with 500K ohm volume pots and humbuckers. A 150K ohm 1/4-watt resistor is used to change the value of the pot. It makes the pickup "see" a 300K ohm pot, which many humbuckers like. It gives the volume pot the best taper for a humbucker, while the cap retains the treble frequencies throughout the taper.
