Ibanez SA1260 has announced the first SA Prestige model. "Prestige models are versions of our guitars that are made in Japan by our most experienced luthiers," commented Shogo Hayashi of the Ibanez electric guitar division. "They feature Old World craftsmanship combined with the most sophisticated New World guitar making available today. The necks have the comfortable feel of vintage necks comfortably rounded by years of dedicated playing.
The Ibanez SA is a descendent of the sleek, slender mahogany S, which Ibanez first introduced in 1987. Many players liked the light weight of the S and its curved top, but weren't comfortable with the curved back. In response, the curved top, but flat-backed SA was born in the late '90s. There was an additional benefit: since the SA requires less extensive woodworking than the S, the SA has a slightly more affordable price than a comparably equipped S. The combination of desired features with an affordable price has made the SA and the entry-level GSA some of the most popular guitar guitars ever offered by Ibanez.
In addition, the S1620 is equipped with the new SAT Pro tremolo system which features locking saddles for outstanding tuning stability and hard steel saddle chips for superior response and tone. Recessed knobs and a rounded, recessed pickup mounting-ring on the bridge offer a sleek low-profile look and playing comfort.
The SA1620 Prestige features a mahogany body with a curved top and flat back, fitted with two IBZ two Ibanez S1 single coils in the neck and middle position and a powerful IBZ V2 humbucking pickup in the bridge position.
The list price is $799.99.
