The Panther line was around from about 1985 to about 1988, when it was replaced by the KC Chicago Series line. Its worth about $100 - $150US on Ebay. It would sell for about $250US in a used guitar store today. The reason for the plates........
Back in the mid 80's alot of companies were putting US addresses or "USA" on all their guitars. No where on the guitar would it say Made in USA, so alot of people where fooled. A sticker on the back would say where it was made and these were pulled off by dealers to up the perceived value of the guitars. Fender, BC Rich, Washburn, Charvel, Ibanez, and the worst of all Kramer among others did this. I dont know who started it, but the 2 earliest ones to do this were BC Rich and Kramer. Kramer went as far as to have the word "American" on their top of the line guitars, which were in fact made in Japan by ESP. In the end, Washburn paid a fine of about $1,000,000 and the other got off scott free. The reason Washburn paid a fine is because someone in the company got the bright idea of pulling the stickers off before they were shipped out to dealers. Because the dealers themselves pulled the tags for the other companies, they could claim innocence, and thats basically the nuts and bolts of the story. So, whenever you see a guitar on Ebay that is claimed to be made in the US, but looks like a bottom feeder, chances are its not.......
