“At the end of the Eighties; Fender did a small production run of American Standard Stratocasters for the export market to expand the productivity for US manufacturing; Japanese bodies and pickguards, paired with USA necks and wiring were completed in the California factory and under FTC requirements were qualified as Made in USA instruments. At that time (1989/1990) it had only been 4/8 years since Fender Employees bought the Fender company from CBS and the company had just a few machines and a small factory, thus production was very limited, moreover the price for an American Standard for European markets was pretty high so Fender presented to European markets this more accessible limited production. That's why in Europe we had this small run of guitars. Some models offered to the international market were not well documented and therefore have little available information.”
