А почему нет? Кастом — это не обязательно кастомшоп. Бывает, например, Peavey Falcon Custom.

Okay, so obviously you've realized this is NOT a "new idea" coming forth from Gibson. They're simply rehashing old ones. What's interesting about this particular old one is that it wasn't successful back then; it was really only manufactured in 1980 (though it hung around as a catalog item for '81 and '82).

Worse, what Gibson has "duplicated" is the lowest end of the three models that were available at that time, and not even accurately at that. Higher end versions were mahogany bodied and had coil splits on Dirty Fingers pickups. This is a take on the lowest end version that was solid maple with generic humbuckers and no coil splits. All had pickguards -- guess Gibson decided that was too much trouble as well.

I'd LOVE to see a true "Custom" in this guitar design (real ebony f/b, real MOP inlays, etc.).

While Gibson has at least duplicated the maple body and neck of the original L6S, they've jiggered the headstock (which is okay with me, I guess) and put some lameass fretboard material on it (the original had maple fretboards like a Fender strat). Too bad they couldn't have duplicated the original pickups, and even worse that they couldn't duplicate the original wiring system. The original had a master volume, a treble roll-off (what we know as a "tone" control) and a Mids roll-off. The new version has a bass roll-off in place of the mids roll-off. Worse, they've abandoned the very cool way the original six-way pickup selector worked (both pickups selected, serial and parallel, in phase and out of phase choices on four of them, with one of the out of phase choices rolling some bottom end out of the neck pickup, for a very cool result) and simply tossed in a coil tap or two. At least the neck is still 24 frets, and for those allergic to a narrow 1 9/16ths" nut, the neck is a standard 1.675" nut this time around. It would have been cool if they'd returned with the big old Schaller harmonica bridge (but that can always be added).

вот немного информации

The Gibson ES-335S Custom Firebrand features:
24 3/4" scale, 3-piece mahogany neck
22 frets on a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays
solid mahogany body
2 Dirty Finger humbuckers, 2 volume and 2 tone controls, pickup selector, and coil tap switch
Chrome-plated hardware and a TP-6 tailpiece

The Dirty Finger pickups are great and when coupled with the coil tap can do everything from sparkling, jangly clean to bell-like chimes, bluesy break-up to heavy-metal chugs.
Action, Fit, & Finish:
While I can't comment on the original factory set-up, this guitar plays like a dream now. The action is fast and low with absolutely no fret buzz. The neck is simply one of the best I've played, fast, easy, and the width is just right for my hands/style.

Only complaint is that the treble volume knob is the slowest moving knob I've ever used, the rest are fast and smooth. Definitely not a dealbreaker and something I can easily fix when I get around to it.
Sound Quality:
This is where the Firebrand truly shines. The Dirty Finger pickups are great and sound better and more expressive here than in any of my other guitars. Like I mentioned above, this guitar is versatile enough to cover a wide-variety of styles but make no mistake about it, this guitar is built for rock. Pair it with a nice all-tube amp and you've stepped back into the golden-age of guitar tone. The distortion tones are clear and defined, never muddy

The guitar is extremely quiet but can produce some very pleasing feedback when you want it to.
Additionally, the sustain on this thing is unbelievable, it just keeps going and going.

Prior to finding this guitar tucked away in my dad's closet, I had been playing several different guitars that had been custom built for me. The Firebrand blew them all away and now it's my go-to guitar for great tone and playability both in the studio and on the stage.
Reliability/Durability:
I don't know how much play this guitar saw before I acquired it a few years ago, but it survived the since it's 1980 birthdate to now virtually intact.

Like others have mentioned, it rarely if ever goes out of tune. I can wail on it and bend the strings all day long and it'll barely be a few cents out of tune afterwards.

Though I'd never want to gig without a backup, if I could only take one guitar with me, I know I could rely on the Firebrand to hold up to any abuse I could throw at it.
Ease of Use:
Seems HC is making me put something here, so what can I say? Plug it in and enjoy the ride. Doesn't get any easier than that.
Customer Support:
Overall Rating:
The versatility and amazing tone combined with the great construction and playability make this guitar my number one choice for recordings and live gigs alike. If you have the pleasure of coming across one, pick it up, you certainly won't regret it.

ES-335S Custom Firebrand
Review By:   Strangeraver-Jjpq7 on 4/17/05 1:00 AM
Reviewer Background:
Purchased From:
Some music store in northern California?
Price:
$700.00 USD USED
Features:
My Gibson Firebrand 335-S Custom was made in 1980. It has 22 frets, Solid Mahogany with a three piece mahogany neck and Rosewood fretboard. When I bought it it was bone stock and well played. Matt Ferguson at Gibson helped me re-furb this beast to it's original glory... added a new bridge and saddles (nashville) and made it magical. This is my absolute favorite guitar for rock. It has a nice bite without being shrill, lots of gain and no noise, it's a dream in the studio and on the road. The coil splitter kicks it into high gear for leads, Dirty finger pickups are loud and responsive, the neck profile is one of the best I've ever played... thinner neck than my 58 Les Paul Historic by a mile, Slimmer fretboard width than my 61 historic SG...with enough beef left for digging in. I have since replaced the stopbar tailpiece with a cool trem unit I got from a well known guitarist friend... it fits over the studs perfectly and has a trem lock on it... it was made in 1982 and I got it new in the package from him in 2005! This guitar will not go out of tune! I can bend strings and use the trem all night long and no tuning issues whatsoever.
Action, Fit, & Finish:
I have no idea what this guitar was like from the factory, but the folks at Gibson did an amazing job setting up this guitar. The original saddles were poorly cut by someone and the guitar had tuning issues and buzzed... The bridge was severely worn. it is perfect now.
Sound Quality:
The sound is amazingly versatile and all the tones sound great... It goes from a warm Les Paul growl to a 335 Jazz tone to a single coil clarity without any loss of character. I use a Fender Hot Rod Deville with 2x12 speakers or a Vox Valvetronix AD60VTX About the only thing I don't like about this guitar is that I didn't get one sooner.
Reliability/Durability:
this thing is a tank... nice hunk of wood. Strap Buttons are a little on the small side, the finish is durable but plain... all business. Totally dependable I would use this at any gig without a backup... I would bring a backup only if someone wanted a pure fender tone.
Ease of Use:
Customer Support:
Gibson kicks butt. Matt Ferguson was Supremely helpful and did my repairs for free!
Overall Rating:
I've been playing guitar for 21 years now. I have 12 guitars from various manufacturers. If this guitar were stolen I would cry, then I would hunt the thief down and neck-punch the sucker. This is one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned. I wish it was self replicating

I believe my firebrand 335-S Custom was made in the late 70's the serial number is 81990575.  It has 22 frets, and is a full wood brownish mahogany finish with no paint and Gibson label branded on head (along with the FIREBRAND 335-S CUSTOM plastic tag on it.  Made in the USA is also stamped into the wood on the back of the neck between the tuning pegs. It has two humbuckers with 3-way switch and a  phase shifting switch  The guitar has a beautiful mahogany dark natural wood finish. This guitar is sweet and in perfect shape :)
Action, Fit, & Finish:
I bought this used around 1980 so I don't know how the factory set it up, but it has been adjusted a few times to keep it sweet.  The finish has held up very well and I only polish it rarely.  All the electronics work well and are tight.  I would love to know it's value today.
Sound Quality:
I use this guitar with a line 6 AMP and I play small clubs and private parties up to 600 or more people.  It plays wonderful and has a rich sound for the wedding style cover tunes and old rock that we play. I get a real wide range of sound, but I wouldn't use this guitar for metal.
Reliability/Durability:
This guitar will last.

I have been in  the same band, Sundown Express for 35 years. I don't think I could find another guitar like this one.  I also have a 1970's SG and an Ovation and a Fender Stratocaster.  I like them all, but this one is one of my favorites.  I have had the action adjusted a few times and it responds well to adjustments.

ES-335S Custom Firebrand

I'm the proud owner of an ES335S Firebrand. It was build in 1983 and got it used this year. It has the two original Gibson humbuckers and sounds just perfect. Very rock and roll look. It has no fancy finishes, just the dark wood top. I'd say it's a practical guitar, made to mean buisiness. Of course, I'm a great Les Paul lover and I like all the cool finishes, but when it comes to basics, the ES335S Firebrand rules! It's called Firebrand because the Gibson logo is Firebranded instead of the regular one. The main features are those of a Les Paul or SG. Not very complicated, really.
Action, Fit, & Finish:
The guitar has undergone some custom shop setup, and now it's perfect. Honestly, I don't know how it was before that. I can only say that after having been to the doctor, this baby smokes!!
Sound Quality:
I play punk rock and roll and this guitar looks great for that style. It melts the look of a regular ES335, but it has the solid body of an SG and the size of a Les Paul. It reminds me a lot of the Les Paul TV or the Junior Special double cutaway. Now, the sound. Man, it's amazing! I play it through a Marshall JCM800 model 2204 and it's so hot! I set the amp to get a dark tone, and the guitar does the rest. I also own a Les Paul Standard but the 335 has become my main guitar. At the same time, the sound is very clear, and with the overdrive it doesn't lose anything on the way. Its best feature, no doubt about that.
Reliability/Durability:
I've only had it for like two months but looks everlasting. It's simple and strong. Let's say it's the kind of guitar you wouldn't mind if it got scratched a little.

Overall Rating:
I love the guitar. It doesn't have fancy features but I don't mind because I don't need them. The sound is perfect and that's what matters most to me, plus the looks of this guitar are amazing for my taste, so I'll give it a 10.

I bought this 335-S custom Firebrand in 1981. I replaced the two Gibson Humbucking pickups with Semore Duncan Custom pickups which produced a much warmer sound. With the two-way selector coil tap switch, I can get a warm sound with more treble in the single coil position. Much darker sound with more harmonic feedback control in the two coil posistion. I find the 335-S Custom Firebrand to be a very versitile guitar for all styles of rock. It fits well in my fiberglass, plush, Les Paul case. It came with a Tune-O-Matic bridge. It has a laminated head-stock, neck, and body. I believe it has Grover tuners and a rosewood fret board. I don't think there is much more I can say, except that, I have been very satisfied with my Gibson 335-S Custom Firebrand. I also use a Boss GE-7 EQ and a Boss CE-2 Chorus.                                                          Thank You,                                   Pat-Fargo, ND
Action, Fit, & Finish:
Good action. I changed the pick-ups to Semore Duncan Customs. The guitar had no visible flaws.

Reliability/Durability:
I can leave this guitar in the case for a month at a time, and, it dosn't go out of tune. After 20 years the finish has held up quite well. I changed the strap buttons to strap locks. I can depend on this guitar any time, any where.
