Хьюз в лучшей форме из всех фронтменов ДП

I was a very good friend of Tommy's from the Zephyr days til the end.  A lot of people here are criticizing his playing in this video...the fact is that his days with Deep Purple were probably the worst days of his life.  He had quit playing a couple of times when he was told that Purple wanted him to audition.  They signed him.  He called me and we laughed because neither of us knew anything about Purple other than their song "Hush"..  He was told it was a good opportunity for exposure so he took it.  He was miserable from the beginning.  The band treated him like sh*t and the "fans" were relentlessly badgering him.  He was lured into hard drugs thru the experience and the love of his life left him for the bass player.  Of course, his playing suffered as well.  I am not making excuses but he was a very naive person.  My point here is that we cannot judge his amazing talent by the Deep Purple days.  Offstage he was one of the sweetest and most wonderfully generous souls I have ever met.  I will always be grateful for having known him.
