"The science that the mass of the headstock affects the resonance of the neck is incontrovertible. Clamp a heavy brass weight to the head of your guitar and the tone will change slightly."
"If you cut a big head down to a small head and scoop up the sawdust and scraps, they'd only weigh a few grams. Fender "F" tuners (with a cast sealed Schaller mechanism inside a stamped steel housing) vs Klusons is a bigger difference in mass than small/large heads"
"Plus there are variations in truss rod mass. A Bullet truss rod puts more metal farther out past the nut in the head area than a heel adjust rod"
И
"Why argue about science when you can be scientific - I did this experiment, so can you...
Take a stethescope and remove the head, or just use a length of rubber tubing with one end in your ear and listen to the different parts of your Strat when you strum unplugged. Just touch the tube all over the body and all the parts of the guitar... then get ready for a huge revelation!
The places you would think would be full of vibration - the bridge, the trem block, anywhere on the body, the back of the neck, the trem springs, the neck plate, etc., - all dead quiet. Amazing!
I started to think all this talk about vibration in the guitar was BS, until I got to the trem bar (the trem bar?). Then I found the head stock!!!
I found there are only two places that sound loud enough to hear: the trem bar itself, and the headstock anywhere past the nut, the tuners being the loudest of all.
The head stock IS THE MAIN PLACE where the vibrational energy is strong enough to hear - try it youself and then rethink everything you thought you knew about vibration in the guitar."
