Welcome to planet DLed. Firstly, I have to declare that in order to really "hear" what on earth is being spat out here, you must either be mentally adrift, stoned, or accustomed to the Free Jazz movement of music. Structure as we know it is out the window, scales are screwed into improvised, but certainly not impoverished math logic, and random chords are gobbed crudely at the listener in an almost blaringly disturbing manner. There is so much to write about this concept of nightmarish art: it's fascinating stuff, so raw, and somehow, somewhere between the disjoints there is cohesion - Notes climb and fall to meet into a chord explosion that sounds sometimes ugly, and sometimes as beautiful as the sunset. This other-worldly aura that radiates is so intriguing and hard to resist. There are parts where we open the door into a bluesy loneliness, but then the door is slammed in our faces by black-metal thrashing guitars. Other times we can see the faint outline of a chorus, and we are being lead to it by the slapping bass, yet when we get there, the floor crumbles beneath us and we fall into a pit of mania. If all this were patch-worked together for the sake of it, it would lose all its credibility, but what amazes me is that the genre snippets flow into one another like night follows day. There is a major point to cover here: if this track is the result of hours of working out how chords will meet, how the rhythm will intercept key changes and how the tonality will harmonize over which phrase, then you get this strange urge over you to bow down to DLed. Nobody accepts improvisation coincidences of this scale. Therefore I can only assume the chaos that manages to be tuneful is intelligently pre-meditated. The percussion does need work on its production; the bass drum sounds too plastic and would give this track even more power, especially through the thrash, if it had a bit more thunder to its beat. However, I almost forgot to comment on this as the sheer distractions one encounters, textually from the other layers, takes you away from any impurities or neglected areas of recording quality under the surface. DLed may not even realize what they have created. It's a monster of complexity, accidental or intentional: it does not matter. I urge everyone who reads this review to listen with an open mind; it challenges the listener so much your brain will be on a total workout... A marriage of intelligent insanity and beautiful chaos - A fantastic wavelength to be on. Mike Beatham
