In the cases that were mentioned you can use melodic approach for transcribing and sometimes it works even better then harmonic.I mean,everybody knows that chords reflect scales and backwards,so,if you're able to figure out what scale is being used for soloing,then you can figure out the chord,too(all this,of course,if the soloist on the recording knows what he's doing and is playing inside the harmony)
