Теперь об инструменте подробнее. Дека и гриф – красное дерево (однокусковые), топ – клен, накладка – палисандр. Датчики – именные J.Page. Профиль грифа очень удобный – ближе к 59-му. Состояние полностью играбельное. Есть косметические шероховатости возраста, лишь украшающие это сокровище. У этого стандарта, в сравнении со многими, посетившими мою студию, звук обладает характерным безграничным сустейном, но при этом есть кристальная разборчивость, отсутствие бубнежа в низах и яркий рояльный обертон, особенно красиво проявляющий себя в перегрузе. По весу - тяжелый, поскольку не имеет не полостей, ни дырок, но к этому привыкают)). Я его назвал - идеалом записи леспольного звука. Дальше - ваши уши и вкус.

For those that don't know, Tom Murphy is arguably the most highly sought after guitar finisher/luthier in the world. In 1991 Tom was Gibson's senior master finish expert. Tom Murphy certainly is thee master as evidenced by the finish on this very guitar. Not only is he an artist's artist but an incredible mentor as well. As this guitar was produced in the very early days of the Custom Shop when their record keeping was, uh, er, um...not so good, not much is known about this particular guitar (other than it is what it is). However, while searching for this guitars birth records, I have found that there is a pretty cool story behind it which I have heard from most reliable sources (I could tell you, but then I'd have to... well, you know). First of all, "Brunswick Bowling ball Blue" is not actually even an official Gibson color and does not have a specific Gibson paint code...it's just the name Tom gave to the experimental color... for obvious reasons... of course. Secondly, because of an ever increasing demand for custom painted guitars during this time period there was an "unused room" at the Gibson factory that was given to Tom and his team to conduct singular experiments, one-offs and short runs. This "unused room" turned out to be the "Custom Shop" (that we all know and love today) and this guitar is a product of that time period and the experiments conducted in it.
In 1991 the Custom Shop produced a run of about 30 Standards in this "BBB" color. There are possibly 4 or 5 (maybe 6 or even 7 or 8?) others out there but not necessarily all being this same exact color and not necessarily all from the same year and not necessarily all LP Standard. For instance, there was an ES-335 (355?) finished in a "BBB" color for B.B. King and Joe Perry has a Classic or a Standard in a similar red flake finish, and G.E. Smith (Hall & Oats and SNL band) has a pink-champagne flake Firebird.
