Next month a new version of the Ibanez Messhugah signature model the M80M will become available making it more accessible to fans of the band and the guitar. The original M8M is priced at around $6000 so not many people can afford it whereas this version which, I assume is coming from the Premium factory in Indonesia, will be priced at $2000.
The M80M features the same hardware including the Lungdren M8P humbucker and FX Edge-III 8 bridge, however
features different body wood, Ash instead of Alder, and a slightly different combination of woods for the neck, Walnut and Maple rather than Bubinga and Maple. Neither of these options would really impact the build cost so I think it is just something to differentiate the two models. The 29.4″ scale length M80M may be a one trick pony but if you are looking for the ultimate in 8 string Metal guitars but can’t justify dropping $6000 on an M8M make sure you check out the M80M which will be available the end of August.
After some discussion with Stephen Smith (in the comments) it seems the orignal M8M was made by Sugi Guitars and may still be I am still looking into it.
That would then suggest that the M80M may be produced in the Japanese factory hence the $2000 price tag rather than a Premium price which would be more like $1000. -
